Okanagan wine tours at a glance

The Okanagan Valley is the largest wine region in British Columbia and runs more than 250 km from north to south. Peachland sits on the west shore of Okanagan Lake, with the Westbank and West Kelowna tasting rooms just to the north. That makes it an easy base for a day of tastings without long transfers.

There are two basic ways to do it. You can join a guided tour, where someone else drives and plans the stops. Or you can build your own route and appoint a driver who does not drink. Both work. The guided option removes the question of who drives home.

Our picks: Okanagan wine tours

Pick the half-day tours for a few stops and the six-hour days for five wineries. The bike and wine day suits you if you want the Myra Canyon views as well. The driver does not drink, which is why guided tours with pickup make sense here.

Best Okanagan wine tours: how to choose

Start with how much of the day you want to plan yourself. A guided tour suits you if you want several tastings, no driving and someone who knows which rooms are open. A self-drive day suits you if you prefer to linger at one or two places and have a sober driver in the group.

  • Guided group tour: fixed stops, fixed times, usually a pickup point. Ask whether tastings and food are part of the price, because they are not automatically included.
  • Private or small-group tour: more say over the stops. Confirm the pickup location before you book, since not every tour collects in Peachland.
  • Self-drive: the most flexible, but the driver cannot taste.

Prices for tours are set by the operators and shown in US dollars on the cards above. Tasting fees at the wineries are separate, are charged in Canadian dollars and are sometimes credited against a bottle you buy.

West Kelowna wine trail from Peachland

The tasting rooms close to Peachland belong to the West Kelowna side of the valley, along the lake. The Westside Wine Trail groups member wineries along the West Kelowna side. Some open only in spring to autumn, others all year, so there are no single opening hours for the trail. Check each room before you set out.

For more on individual tasting rooms, see Okanagan wineries near Peachland. The region has 11 formal sub-regions, such as Lake Country, East Kelowna Slopes and South Kelowna Slopes. West Kelowna and Peachland are not formal sub-regions of their own.

The south of the valley is a separate trip. For the Naramata side of the lake, see the Naramata Bench guide.

Planning a wine day

Four things that make the day easier.

Book tastings ahead

Some rooms require a booking and others only recommend one. A short call or online booking avoids a closed door.

Know the season

Autumn brings harvest events and special tastings, and some rooms stay open all year.

Fix the driver first

Decide who drives before the first glass. In British Columbia a warning level applies from 0.05 percent blood alcohol and a fail level from 0.08 percent. These are enforcement limits, not an allowance. The driver does not drink.

Bring ID

The minimum age for tastings and wine purchases is 19, and staff check identification. Do not assume children can come along or get a special rate.

Okanagan wine tours: frequently asked questions

Are tastings included in the tour price?

Not automatically. Some tours include tastings and others do not, so read what each offer covers. Winery tasting fees are separate and are sometimes credited towards a purchase.

Do tours pick up in Peachland?

That depends on the operator. Confirm the pickup point before you book, and ask about the nearest stop if the tour starts in Kelowna or West Kelowna.

How old do I have to be to taste wine?

You must be 19 or older for tastings and wine purchases, and staff check ID. Do not plan on bringing children as tasting guests.

Can I drive myself and still taste?

No. Choose a sober driver or book a guided tour. Warning and fail levels apply from 0.05 and 0.08 percent blood alcohol, and the safe choice is none at all.

When is the best time for a wine tour?

There is no single tour season for the whole region. Some tasting rooms are open in spring to autumn and some all year. Harvest time in autumn brings special tastings and events.

Is this the official site for Peachland wine tours?

No. This is an independent guide. We do not run tours or wineries, and booking links lead to the operators.
